our practitioner will perform a detailed examination to diagnose your condition. They will then decide whether you are a good candidate for Shockwave Therapy. Shockwave treatment typically takes about 5 minutes per body part treated. During this time, the patient will experience repeated pulses to the area being treated. Some patients do experience mild-moderate pain with shockwave treatments, which generally lessens with successive treatments. If you do experience some pain, this is a normal response to treatment because the pulses are penetrating the inflamed and painful area. Our machine uses patented Soft Shot technology, which provides a gentler treatment than other Shockwave units.
Most patients experience an immediate decrease in their pain, improved joint movement, and relaxation of tight and tender muscles following treatment. It is normal if you experience reddening or bruising of the area after treatment. This typically subsides within the day. Do not use ice or anti-inflammatory medications following treatment because this reduces the inflammatory response produced by the machine.
Shockwave therapy will be implmeneted with a full rehabilitation protocol, which will also include low level laser therapy and eccentric and isometric loading for tendon issues. Using the protocol, patients should see significant improvement quickly and will most likely only need 3-6 sessions. For most conditions patients will come in once per week.
