Benefits of Shockwave Therapy:
– Uses the inflammatory process to speed up healing
– Floods the injured area with blood flow, which stimulates healing and new tissue growth
– Releases chemicals that block pain signals from reaching the brain, which results in an immediate reduction in pain

Shockwave uses pulses that create acoustic waves. These waves penetrate the tissues with a mechanical force, which triggers a local and controlled inflammatory reaction. The body can then do what it does best and heal the inflammation. Essentially, the shockwave creates a local inflammatory state and the body responds by increasing blood flow to the area. There is some evidence that Shockwave therapy stimulates angiogenesis (formation of small blood vessels), which increases local blood supply. This supplies the area with the products necessary to accelerate healing. Shockwave also inhibits nociception (pain signal transduction), which helps block pain.

How does it help?

  1. Uses the inflammatory process to speed up healing
  2. Floods the injured area with blood flow, which stimulates healing and new tissue growth
  3. Releases chemicals that block pain signals from reaching the brain, which results in an immediate reduction in pain

These effects may Shockwave a leading therapeutic tool for alleviating the pain and enhancing the healing process for stubborn and painful conditions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Is Shockwave Therapy Safe?
  • What Will You Experience?
Is Shockwave Therapy Safe?

Yes. Shockwave therapy is a very safe treatment when used appropriately. Your practitioner will conduct a detailed examination to determine whether you are a good candidate for Shockwave Therapy. Shockwave is not recommended for:

  • Coagulation Disorders
  • Cancerous regions or tumours
  • Children
  • During pregnancy
  • Have seizures
  • Have weak or numb arms or legs
  • Are unsteady on your feet; have slurred speech

2. If no symptoms denoting an emergency room visit are present then call TRCC and book an appointment with the Athletic Therapist. This should be done as soon as possible. If you have any questions the staff at TRCC will be happy to answer them or you will be directed to the Athletic Therapist if more information is needed.

The best concussion care involves early recognition and proper management of symptoms. We are happy to do anything we can to make this an easy process for you and your family.

What Will You Experience?

our practitioner will perform a detailed examination to diagnose your condition. They will then decide whether you are a good candidate for Shockwave Therapy. Shockwave treatment typically takes about 5 minutes per body part treated. During this time, the patient will experience repeated pulses to the area being treated. Some patients do experience mild-moderate pain with shockwave treatments, which generally lessens with successive treatments. If you do experience some pain, this is a normal response to treatment because the pulses are penetrating the inflamed and painful area. Our machine uses patented Soft Shot technology, which provides a gentler treatment than other Shockwave units.

Most patients experience an immediate decrease in their pain, improved joint movement, and relaxation of tight and tender muscles following treatment. It is normal if you experience reddening or bruising of the area after treatment. This typically subsides within the day. Do not use ice or anti-inflammatory medications following treatment because this reduces the inflammatory response produced by the machine.

Shockwave therapy will be implmeneted with a full rehabilitation protocol, which will also include low level laser therapy and eccentric and isometric loading for tendon issues. Using the protocol, patients should see significant improvement quickly and will most likely only need 3-6 sessions. For most conditions patients will come in once per week.
